Children learn, grow and develop at different rates. Towne Creek believes that our kindergarten program provides a curriculum that is adaptable to each child’s needs, interests, and level of development. Our program aligns with TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills), the state standard objectives students should master in each grade level. We do our best to mirror the FBISD kindergarten curriculum to provide a smooth transition into the first grade at your neighborhood school.
Our teachers will provide your child with a solid foundation on which to learn through individualized instruction. There will be opportunities to experience success and build a positive self-concept. A typical day includes balancing large group, small group, individual, and center-based learning experiences. The kindergarten schedule is flexible to allow for those unplanned teachable moments.
Language Arts
Towne Creek implements a program that maximizes our students’ learning through high-impact literacy instruction. Our goal is to engage their minds and help them understand what they read. The program utilizes the power of guided reading lessons, shared reading, independent reading, and interactive writing. The student’s success is validated using a Benchmark Assessment System that provides reliable one-on-one assessments.
Program Objectives:
Phonemic Awareness Guided Reading Oral Language Development
Phonics Shared Reading Fluency
Print Concept Vocabulary Writing
Journals
Our day begins with journal time. This growing process allows the children to become writers by creating stories, spelling by phonetically stretching out words, and illustrators by drawing pictures. Children gain a strong sense of accomplishment and ownership from this experience.
Daily News
Children take turns being reporters. They report on a current and relevant event, and reports are written out in giant print for all to see. Students are taught phonics, punctuation, spelling, and grammar from this meaningful and personalized print.
Mathematics
Our math curriculum consists of a hands-on, research-based program. Our goal is to produce mathematically-powerful thinkers and problem solvers who are comfortable using math in their daily lives. The program encourages parent involvement by providing supplements that connect the classroom and home.
Objectives include:
Calendar Graphs Measurement Mental Math Statistics
Money Number Line Time Geometry Place Value
Estimation Patterns
Social Studies
Our social studies program allows the children to learn about themselves, human characteristics, geography, map skills, their communities, Texas and the United States.
Science
Our science program provides learning opportunities that explain the scientific process. The children obtain scientific knowledge by conducting simple experiments that explore the physical properties of objects. Students are encouraged to conduct investigations and observe the characteristics of living and nonliving organisms, weather changes, and natural resources.
Specials
Kindergarten students participate in “Specials,” offered throughout the school year. These classes include music, art, Spanish, computer, drama, motor development, and Field Trips (library visits, plays, musicals, and more).
We believe our children learn best:
- In an environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, trust, and friendship
- Allows the freedom to explore, create and express ideas through a variety of teacher and child-initiated activities
- When allowed to be an active participant in the learning process
Through these experiences, we hope to develop a love of learning that will continue for years to come.
