The Towne Creek School was founded in 1983 to provide the highest quality early childhood program and afterschool experience in a secure and nurturing environment. The two-acre campus, located between Missouri City and First Colony, provides a unique developmental program designed for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, as well as a Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten program. In addition, a dynamic Afterschool program for school-aged students and a Summer Camp program are offered.
The Towne Creek School has been directed by the same owner, an educator for over 30 years, throughout the course of its history. The majority of our lead teachers hold degrees in Early Childhood Education or a related field. The teachers’ solid qualifications and dedication to their field have a direct effect on their longevity with the program, as many have been with the school over ten years. This strong foundation of child development gives our school such a wealth of resources from which to plan an exciting and challenging program for our children. It not only enhances the quality of education we provide, but allows opportunities for authentic assessment and individualization of the curriculum.
The school first achieved accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children in 1988. We are currently going through reaccreditation with a target date of November 2009.
Our facility provides a spaciousness inside and out for a child to feel the freedom to explore, to create, and to learn in a way that is friendly and encouraging, and free of stress. It is amazing how the physical environment can affect a child’s learning, not to mention his/her emotional self-assuredness. This is important in the classroom, on the playground, in the gym, in the library, and when he/she walks in the front door every day. A welcome, inviting environment holds the key to a positive, happy road to a successful learning experience.
The teachers share the common goal of developing in each child a positive attitude toward him/herself and toward learning. We focus on the growth and development of the whole child -- the social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills. We provide a creative, hands-on approach, while maintaining the belief in a solid foundation through core curriculum areas. In addition to teacher-directed activities, we provide an atmosphere in which the children do much learning and discovering on their own. Our goal is to develop in each child a positive self-esteem, positive social skills, a love of learning, and an opportunity to learn to his/her greatest potential. Small class sizes and carefully selected teaching materials allow us to meet the individual needs, interests, capabilities and learning styles of the children.
In addition to our academic curriculum, we place a high priority on enriching and enhancing the child’s perspective, to go beyond the classroom on a consistent basis.
Realizing the importance of health and fitness, our curriculum provides for outdoor play or gym time twice per day. In addition to general play, the children participate in Motor Development twice per week in the gym with our gym teacher. The teacher plans activities that promote the growth and development of the specific age group with whom he/she is working at the time.
is offered to the three-year classes, Pre-Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten.
The Pre-Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students attend these classes on a rotating basis, with specialized teachers for each of these subject areas.
In the younger classes, art and science are integrated into the curriculum on a daily basis, and computers are available to all preschool classes.
Special programs such as Fall Fun, Snow Day, Mother Goose visit, Mad Science, and other events brought to school allow the children the opportunity to engage in the activities, to be part of the experience, to interact in a way that he/she cannot do in a typical classroom setting.
In order to provide a positive learning experience for our children, a close relationship between home and school is vital. High priority is placed on communication between teachers and parents, and between administration and parents. Each family is a valued member of The Towne Creek family. Opportunities are available throughout the year for parents to be involved as much as possible.
Our purpose at The Towne Creek School is to provide a warm, nurturing, supportive and academically challenging environment, where children feel safe, secure, loved and respected; where they are given opportunities to develop to their fullest potential in all areas - social, emotional, physical and cognitive; where parents and staff work together as a team to ensure that we provide an experience that goes beyond the expected, for the children, parents and staff of this program.
We would be honored to share our vision with you. We invite you to visit our program and discuss the goals, philosophy and curriculum. Please call us at 281-499-8030 or come visit at 3311 Williamsburg Lane, across from WalMart on Highway 6.
Why did I, a former High School foreign language teacher, decide to start my own school for young children, 25 years ago? Every time I would visit Dallas, my home town, I would go directly to Cornerstone, my sister’s preschool, and just marvel at what was going on. I just could not believe what those children were doing and what those teachers were teaching. It was so much fun to watch!
With great family support, I took over, on July 14, 1983, The First Step Child Development Center, a smaller, lovely building a few streets away, four months after my first child was born. In May, 1986, we finished construction and moved into the first phase of The Towne Creek School. It encompassed nine classrooms surrounding a large Multi Purpose Room, a kitchen, a small library and one large playground. In 1993, we completed phase 2, which added an extension of the library, 5 classrooms, an indoor gym, a play “field” area, an infant-toddler play area, and a swimming pool.
My goal was simply to provide the very best child development program possible. The only way I knew to do that was to find the very best teachers I could find. The only way I knew to do that was to seek teachers degreed in early childhood education so that every activity planned for the children would have an educational and developmental purpose.
I wanted to make sure that the children had a day full of learning and enrichment, and that we were promoting all skills - social, emotional, physical and cognitive. Our academic program must be complemented by our creative arts as well, as we have always emphasized drama, music, art, cultural and environmental awareness, science and Spanish from the earliest days of our program.
What greater joy can there be than having former students now in their teens or twenties come apply for a job because they want to share their love of learning and positive experiences, that they derived from Towne Creek, with the young children of today? |
